Introduction of liquid thermal shock chamber

Liquid thermal shock chamber (also known as a liquid-bath thermal shock chamber) is a type of equipment used for accelerated reliability stress testing. It features two separate temperature-controlled liquid baths—one for high temperatures and one for low temperatures. A basket mechanism rapidly and alternately immerses the test specimen into these high- and low-temperature heat-transfer liquid media. Leveraging the superior heat-transfer capacity of liquids compared to air, the system achieves extremely rapid temperature shocks, subjecting the specimen to intense thermal stress. Compared to air-based thermal shock testing, this method imposes more severe stress and results in faster temperature change rates for the specimen; it is primarily used for the screening and verification of high-reliability components.

Standard correspondence: IEC 60068-2-14 Test Nc (two-bath method), MIL-STD-883 Method 1011

Application and related test standard:

1. Semiconductors and IC Packaging (Most Common Application)
Specimens: Wafer-level packaged devices, chips, optical modules, TO-packaged components, ceramic packages, MEMS, and discrete devices.
Standards: MIL-STD-883 Method 1011, JESD22-A106, IEC 60749-11, IEC 60068-2-14 Nc.
Purpose: To screen for package delamination, cracks in plastic encapsulation, loss of hermeticity, and solder ball defects.

2. Military and Aerospace Electronics
Specimens: Airborne components, hermetically sealed relays, aerospace sensors, thick-film circuits, and connectors.
Standards: MIL-STD-202 Method 107, DO-160, GJB (Chinese Military Standards).
