We commonly use two types of salt spray nozzles in salt spray test chambers: quartz glass nozzles and titanium alloy nozzles. Below are the characteristics of these two nozzles; customers can choose the appropriate nozzle based on their demand.
1. Glass Nozzle (Borosilicate/Quartz)
✅ Advantages
- High atomization precision: smooth inner wall, uniform pore size, droplets 1-5μm, uniform settling, conforming to GB/T 10125 and ISO 9227.
- Strong chemical inertness: Resistant to NSS/AASS/CASS salt spray, does not react with salt water, and does not contaminate the test solution.
- Not prone to crystallization and clogging: hydrophobic surface, salt crystals are difficult to adhere, lifespan approximately 4000 hours.
- Low cost: low price, inexpensive replacement.
❌ Disadvantages
- Fragile: easily cracked by thermal shock and impact, not impact resistant.
- Limited lifespan: Generally requires replacement after 500-800 hours; quartz approximately 1200 hours.
- Not resistant to high temperatures: Prone to aging and embrittlement after prolonged exposure to temperatures above 60℃.
2. Titanium Alloy Nozzles
✅ Advantages
- Extreme corrosion resistance: surface TiO₂ passivation film, fully resistant to NSS/AASS/CASS, corrosion rate ≈ 0.
- High mechanical strength: impact and vibration resistant, not easily damaged by drops, suitable for high-frequency/24-hour continuous operation.
- Extremely long lifespan: 10,000+ hours of normal use, virtually maintenance-free.
- Good temperature resistance: remains undeformed at 200℃+ for extended periods, suitable for composite salt spray/high-temperature salt spray.
❌ Disadvantages
- Slightly lower atomization accuracy: inner wall roughness is higher than glass, droplets are slightly coarser (5-10μm), and uniformity is slightly worse.
- Higher price: material and processing costs are approximately 5-10 times that of glass.
- Prone to scaling: salt crystals easily adhere to the metal surface, requiring regular cleaning.
- Galvanic corrosion risk: contact with carbon steel/copper parts will accelerate the corrosion of the latter; insulated installation is required.
How does customer to select the nozzles?
- Standard NSS/AASS, prioritizing data accuracy, limited budget → Glass nozzle (mainstream standard).
- CASS/acidic salt spray, 24-hour continuous operation, high-frequency testing, sensitive to downtime → Titanium alloy nozzle (preferred for high-end/industrial grade).
