Motor windings dip paint drying process

Motor windings dip paint drying effect:
1. Provide winding moisture resistance;
2. Improve the heat dissipation conditions of the winding;
3. Increase mechanical properties;
4. Provide electrical insulation properties for windings.

Process requirements:
1. Pre-drying: temperature is 105℃~115℃
Evaporate moisture, increase the fluidity of paint, and make the paint dipping effect better. Put the motor windings into the drying room for pre-drying. The temperature in the drying room should be gradually increased. The temperature rise rate should not be greater than 20~30℃/H. A fan should be installed to enhance the air flow in the drying room. During the pre-drying process, , the temperature is set to 105~115℃, and the insulation resistance is measured every hour.

Insulation heat resistance grade Heat resistance limit temperature Pre-drying temperature under normal pressure(℃) Pre-drying time(H)
A 105 105-115 3~4
E 120 115-125 3~4
B 130 130-140 3~4
F 155 150-165 3~4
H 180 170-190 3~4

2. The first dip in paint: the motor temperature is between 60~80℃ and stored at room temperature of 20℃
To fill the gaps, the viscosity of the paint used should be thinner, with a viscosity of 18~22s.
Dip paint methods: pouring, immersion, vacuum pressure immersion; single motor repair uses pouring immersion; large quantities use immersion; high-voltage motors use vacuum pressure immersion.

The temperature of the motor windings must be cooled, and then placed in a paint bucket or poured with paint. During the paint dipping process, it is necessary to prevent debris, moisture, etc. from adhering to the windings. The dipping process requires 15min-20min until it is soaked.

3. Dripping paint:
After the paint dipping is completed, place the motor casing vertically and drip off excess paint. The paint dripping time should not be less than 30 minutes.

4. First drying: temperature at 130°C, medium and high temperature 80-160°C, time 6-8H, high temperature 180-280°C, time 14-16 hours.
Accelerate the solvent evaporation and oxidation of the paint, and initially finalize the shape. The first drying process can be completed only after ensuring that the insulation resistance is above 2MΩ.

5. Second dip: dip temperature 60-80℃
To increase the thickness of the paint film, the viscosity of the paint should be larger, usually 30-38s
The standard for measuring the viscosity of insulating paint is generally based on 20°C. Therefore, when measuring the viscosity, appropriate adjustments should be made according to the temperature of the paint.

6. The second time of dripping paint, the method is the same as the first time.

7. Second drying: After the paint dipping is completed, bake the motor at 130℃, medium and high temperature 80-160℃ for 8-10H, high temperature 180-280℃ for 16-18H

The drying time is lengthened, and the test can only be completed after the insulation resistance value is stable (after baking, the interphase insulation between the motor and the ground must be above 1.5MΩ to be considered qualified). Class B insulation: The temperature in the box is about 130°C. For small and medium power motors, it needs Temperature 80℃, time 2 hours. After dipping, bake the motor at 130℃, medium high temperature 80-160℃ time 8-10H, high temperature 180-280℃ time 16-18H

Note: According to different insulation levels, the paint dipping steps can be changed. Motors with EB-level insulation requirements can undergo a paint dipping process.
